Hello, and welcome! I’m Samantha “Sam” Polatsek, a passionate newborn and family photographer based in Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. As a mum, wife, and artist, I find immense joy in capturing the beauty of tiny humans and their loving families.
I share my life with my husband, Danny, and our three wonderful children—Eloise (10), Theia (8), and Duncan (7)—along with our two beloved fur babies, Chase a Boxer and Teddy a Jack Russell.
The Story Behind My Name
Polatsek (pronounced Polacheck) is a name rich in history, tracing back to Hungary, where my grandfather was born. My deep connection to this heritage has led me to visit three times, including a five-month stay as a nanny, teaching English to two young boys. One day, I hope to return with my own children and share this special part of our family’s story with them.
You may also notice the unique design of my branding and logo—a tribute to the beauty of Hungarian folk art, reflecting both my heritage and my passion for timeless artistry. It also symbolizes new beginnings, perfectly capturing the essence of welcoming a new life into the world.

With years of experience caring for little ones—starting when my younger siblings were born—I have always been drawn to working with babies. Newborn photography isn’t just my profession; it’s my true calling. I have trained extensively with some of the world’s leading newborn photographers to perfect my craft, ensuring your baby is always in safe and gentle hands.

Fun Fact
I have an absolute obsession with elephants! One of my most unforgettable experiences was in Thailand, where I trashed my dress while riding an elephant. I waded into the river in my wedding dress, much to the surprise of the locals—who probably thought I was a little crazy! But it was an incredible moment, and of course, I cherish the photos to this day.
